DESCRIPTION

This cooperative vocational education program leads to Level One electrician theory accreditation with credit for 900 practical hours towards employment as an apprentice. You'll receive technical training and preferential work term placements with Industrial-Commercial-Institutional Contractors. Class size is limited to 18 students. The course will be broken down into 30-weeks in class for 1050 hours of training, and a 5-week work-term on a jobsite for 200 hours hours of training.

PREREQUISITES

Students must have completed a Grade 12 education, or equivalent. An entrance interview as well as a mechanical aptitude test will be administered to determine suitability for the program.

To prepare students to enter the Construction Electrician trade with an adequate understanding of Commercial and Residential Electrical Construction. Students will understand basic electrical theory, hands-on skills, best practices, and how to perform work in a safe, efficient manner.
Students will be given the opportunity to buy their books (approximately $650) and tools (approximately $750) through IBEW 625.
Students will be provided Safety Training including WHMIS, Fall Protection, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, First Aid, and Confined Space Generic.
Students will be registered with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency as an Apprentice upon completion.
Students will be afforded a job opportunity with one of our Signatory Contractors.
